The Key Elements of Radiance
It’s easy to think about all the physical and outer things we must do to radiate from the inside out. For instance, if we get in a good workout, eat our greens, and drink a lot of water, we will radiate from the inside as our internal body is healthy and cared for. To glow from the outside, what comes to mind may be doing a 5-step skincare regime, grabbing your illuminator from your makeup bag, and exfoliating those dull, dead skin cells. First and foremost, these are all fantastic options to create radiance, but they are only a part of the puzzle. The most excellent example is when you see a beautiful, radiant person, and then suddenly, they open their mouth and show you their behaviors and mindsets. All at once, they lose the glow you thought they had. They are missing the other half of the equation. The key elements that make someone permanently radiant are a beautiful attitude and character. Those are two things that can’t be bought, but I have a few tips on how to earn it.
#1 Create a healthy environment.
I don't necessarily mean your physical environment, but that I won't deny a bouquet of roses on the kitchen table has a positive impact on your attitude; however, it's fleeting. When discussing creating a healthy environment, I'm talking about making your mind healthy and untouchable. When your mind and internal world are wholesome, that will show through your actions and words. It's the soil for your relationship with yourself and others. Suppose you've ever been in a negative headspace and gotten out of it. In that case, you may realize all the ways you've been closed off, rude, ungrateful, projected pain upon others, self-sabotaged, creating low self-esteem, dramatically impacting the attitude you bring to your life.
Practical Tips to Create a Healthy Mind-
Mediation:
People rave about meditation, and it seems like we are hearing a broken record here, but it's repeated by people so much because it works if you do it correctly. I swear to you, give it a try! An indescribable magic happens during meditation; furthermore, it's a unique experience for each person. If you are struggling with anxiety, anger, sadness, confidence, or stress, I highly recommend a guided meditation app. I love Headspace because they have courses for whatever you may be having a hard time with and gives you the tools and insights you need to get past that block in your mind. Meditation can help you learn to interrupt, navigate, or sit with negative thoughts. I don't know that by providing scientific facts, but by straight-up and personal experience.
Get into the Real World:
Get off social media and step away from technology, whether that means going on a walk in nature, connecting with the barista at your local coffee shop, volunteering, or doing some hard work in the yard. When you are living life present in the real world, you are less likely to fall into thought patterns that don't serve you and make your mind worse.
Find an Outlet:
Look for a healthy way to take care of your emotional health, whether that be therapy, journaling, art, fitness, or gardening. Having your emotional health under control helps you be less reactive and maintains harmony in your mind and how you communicate with others. I am confident that even doing one thing daily to take care of your emotional health can wipe out bad attitudes or pessimistic outlooks on life.
#2 Develop a Deeply Connected, Respected, and Loving Relationship with Yourself.
If you don't know yourself well, you will suffer in agony because we all need to know ourselves. When we don't respect or love ourselves, we make poor decisions, leading to self-hatred. No one in that place shows up with a beautiful attitude. If you are in this spot with yourself, take a breath and release any shame or guilt you've been holding. You can start right now by implementing the tips below.
Practical Tips to Deepen Your Relationship with Yourself and Create Love and Respect for Yourself-
Show up for Yourself:
Plain and simple, when you say you want to do something- do it. If you want to start going to the gym, set yourself up for success with what you need and do it. Don't complicate this!
Learn about Yourself:
You can't love yourself if you don't know yourself. Use a journal or guided journal to help you get started to know yourself and your patterns that don't serve you. You can also look at ways to overcome any negative patterns in your life that keep coming up and run diagnostics and treatments for them. Go out into the world and try new things, discover new places, and you will learn from experience what you like and dislike. You can write down things you start to know and love about yourself, your accomplishments, and the parts of yourself you appreciate and want to embody more of.
Gain Self-Respect:
Write down all the things that would make you respect yourself or things you currently do that provide that self-respect. Maybe how you are present with your kids daily gives you self-respect; maybe accomplishing one of the big tasks on your list that you keep putting off would provide you with self-respect. I think many have it wrong that we should respect ourselves because we are a worthy human being, and yes, to a point, but respect with ourselves comes with taking action in line with our essential values. Respect is earned, not given automatically, and you will see that it is confirmed once you start moving forward in that direction.
Self- Acceptance:
Self-acceptance took me a long time to understand. I didn't believe I could ever accept myself; there was too much I wanted to improve, but I was not looking at the whole picture, and when I was trying to understand this concept, it was before I had deepened that relationship with myself. Accepting yourself means to accept who you are at your core. The parts of yourself that you believe require no apologies for being, and they are the parts that you accept and embrace. The parts of yourself that you would like to improve also need your acceptance. You can say, “Yup, this isn't where I want to be in this area.” You can accept that fact and improve lovingly without the drama of not liking that part of yourself. Or, in my case, I'm short; yes, would long legs be incredible? Sure, but I have to accept this is what I have, and I don't ever have to worry about wearing heels, so there's that. You make the most of your so-called imperfections or things you don't control.
#3 Embody The Building Blocks of Inner Radiance.
Warmth:
You can embrace the energy of warmth by putting love, kindness, and empathy at the forefront of your actions, behaviors, and words. A simple way to embody this daily is by committing to an act of kindness a day or showing up with love and empathy instead of frustration with your partner, kids, or a co-worker.
Humor:
Being willing to laugh and finding humor in everything makes for a good life. Humor is contagious and amplifies the inner light in you.
Fun:
We need child-like fun, end of story. Look at anyone having fun; you immediately want to be part of it and next to that person.
Passion:
Being in your element in what ignites passion can be spotted for miles! When you see someone get that twinkle in their eye when they talk about or are doing something they are passionate about, wow, that is radiance. Not to mention magnetic!
#4 The Boosters.
I didn't want to exclude these things because they are essential! We hear most about these things, and for good reason. It is 100 % true that when you look good, you feel good! When you are dressed to the nines or feel confident in your skin, you give yourself permission to release the inner radiance you haven't been showing the world. As cheesy as it sounds, it's like a superhero putting on their cape.
Here are a few boosters to add to your routine to help you glow!
Have a solid workout routine that you enjoy and can stay consistent with.
Eat healthy meals, and don't forget dark chocolate is good for you. 😉
Hydrating through water, herbal teas, and green juice.
Use sunless tanner to get that glow on!
Hair, face, and overnight lip masks.
Learning how to apply your makeup in a way that enhances your beauty, not covers it.
Take care of your skin by moisturizing, exfoliating, and using serums!
Prioritizing QUALITY sleep.
Taking good care of your grooming and hygiene.
Getting your nails and hair done.
Learning about your style and buying pieces that make you feel confident over time.
A healthy mind and a deep connection with the self serve as our base, enabling us to embody the inner qualities of radiance. Adding boosters improves our ability to shine. Put these things together, and you have a combination of ever-lasting radiance.
